We return along Pajaro Beach.
Our footprints
diverge along the shore.
For a while, you drift away.
Stop occasionally to wade the water
Or collect sand dollars.
I, on the other hand, wander ahead
witnessing sandpipers and plover
scurry before receding waves
retreating to the returning wash.
In time, our footprints merge.
Haven't they always!
